Shaping the space of modern cities and metropolises involves many issues. The problems of designing individual architectural solutions, shaping layouts and assumptions on an urban scale, and planning metropolitan areas are important here. These issues concern various scales of action and are often discussed in separately organized debates. However, shaping the future architecture of these areas requires an integrated approach, covering design issues from the scale of the individual building and a given public space, through solutions at the scale of the district or larger transformation areas, to structures of metropolitan importance. Shaping the architecture of metropolises at these three scales is also related to organizational and institutional issues and shaping development policies – and therefore goes beyond strictly design and planning approaches.

The aim of the conference is to present the above-mentioned three perspectives on shaping the architecture of contemporary cities and metropolises, as well as issues related to shaping design, planning and institutional and organizational solutions. This will enable the initiation of a debate on shaping architectural policies at various scales and organizational solutions for their implementation.

The intention of the organizers is to invite practitioners (architects and urban designers and planners), representatives of local government authorities, researchers and scientists and other professionals dealing with various aspects of designing and planning architectural and urban solutions at all three scales. This debate should enable understanding the importance of individual problematic issues and how they are integrated, as well as placing them in a broader context – in relation to their interdisciplinary nature and the best practices developed in individual centers.
